Abstract

This study explores the Tagore’s Integration of Folk Traditions into Modernist Literature. Rabindranath Tagore’s integration of folk traditions into modernist literature represents a unique synthesis of local cultural heritage and global literary currents. Drawing deeply from Bengali folk traditions, particularly the music and spirituality of the Baul community, Tagore infused his poetry and songs with themes of humanism, nature, and divine connection. His celebrated work "Gitanjali" exemplifies this fusion, where the simplicity of folk expression meets profound philosophical inquiry, creating a bridge between the personal and the universal. Tagore’s musical compositions, known as Rabindra Sangeet, further illustrate his mastery in blending folk melodies with modern lyrical themes. By incorporating elements from folk music, such as Bhatiali and Bhawaiya, he crafted a distinct musical form that resonates with emotional depth and accessibility. His songs reflect the rhythms of rural life and the spiritual yearnings of the human soul, elevating folk traditions into the realm of high art while maintaining their intrinsic authenticity.
