Synthesis and magnetic properties of spinel Mn-Mg ferrite nanoparticles for catalytic applications

Abstract

Magnetically separable spinel Mn-MgFe2O4 NPs was synthesized by a facile microwave-assisted combustion method. The formation of single-phase cubic spinel structure was confirmed by XRD, FT-IR and EDX analyses. The energy band gap of the samples was confirmed by UV-Vis DRS study and the band gap of pure MgFe2O4 sample is 2.17 eV and it is increased with increasing the amount of Mn2+ dopant, due to the decrease of particle size. VSM showed ferromagnetic behavior for all compositions.
