Abstract

A new bi-dentate Schiff base ligand (L), called 4-hydroxy-3-(1-((5-(p-tolyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2- yl)imino)ethyl)-2H-chromen-2-one (3), was synthesized by condensation of between 5-(p-tolyl)-1,3,4- oxadiazol-2-amine (2) with 3-acetyl-4-hydroxychromen-2-one (1). These compounds were studied using IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and mass spectrometry. Complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) were synthesized and analyzed using mass spectrometry, IR, electronic spectra, and X-ray diffraction. The magnetic properties and molar conductance of the Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes were also measured. The data suggest an octahedral geometry around Cu(II) and Ni(II), and these complexes crystallize in a monoclinic system. Meanwhile, the Zn(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) complexes show a tetrahedral geometry.
