Abstract

With the global proliferation of street lighting systems, managing their energy consumption has become a significant challenge. Traditional methods of manually monitoring and controlling these lights are both inefficient and impractical. To address this, we propose a smart IoT-based system that automates the control and monitoring of street lights. This system tracks the operational status of each street light (ON/OFF) by monitoring their power usage. It automatically activates the lights at 6 PM and deactivates them at 6 AM, ensuring energy efficiency by aligning usage with nighttime hours. In the event of a fault, the system promptly disconnects the faulty light and alerts the user for quick rectification, enhancing the system’s reliability and maintenance efficiency. Real-time monitoring of voltage, current, power consumption, and fault status is facilitated through the Thingspeak IoT platform, accessible from anywhere in the world via the internet. This intelligent solution optimizes energy use and provides seamless control and communication for urban street lighting systems.
