Abstract

This study gives cross-national findings on student agency evaluation and reports on the measurement invariance of the Agency of University Students Scale in data comprising of Finnish and Spanish university students (n = 645). In order to compare covariance structures and correlation analyses, multigroup confirmatory factor analysis validated the metric invariance for ten components. This confirmatory factor analysis can be used, for instance, to investigate the impact of background factors on agency among groups. Six components showed at least partial scalar invariance, enabling mean value comparisons across Finnish and Spanish pupils. Variations were observed in the experiences of the relational and personal agency resources. The usefulness of the AUS Scale for extensive international research of student agency is included in the analysis.
