Abstract

The research in this thesis examines the impact of cybersecurity implementation on the dropping of data breaches in Indian IT companies using secondary data gathered from peer-reviewed papers and industry reports between 2015 and 2020. Results indicate a verifiable negative association between data bypasses incidents and the adoption of cybersecurity guidelines. However, as the rates of adoption of cybersecurity grew from 42% in 2016 to 68% in 2020, the number of reported breaches nearly declined by half, and businesses were saving hefty sums of money. Statistical estimates show that adoption of multilayered cybersecurity solutions, including intrusion detection systems and encryption, substantially reduces the probability of breaches. But smaller businesses find it challenging to put these policies in place because they have fewer resources. One thing that the study points out is a big knowledge gap in how long term cybersecurity policies impact business profitability, particularly for small and medium sized enterprises. It concludes with ideas for such scalable and reasonably priced cybersecurity solutions, as well as for promoting interplay among the involved stakeholders, with the aim of further encouraging broad adoption.
