Abstract

With the focus on student engagement and creative learning, this research studies the efficacy and use of student-centric pedagogy in arts education in India from 2015 to 2020. Using secondary data, the study provides important insights into teacher training programs, enrollment patterns, and student engagement indicators. The findings reveal a steady increase in enrolment, with total enrolment projected at 1.46 million by 2020, reflecting rising appreciation for the arts in higher education. After the intervention, student engagement indicators of class participation, group cooperation, and assignment invention increased significantly. The study also found that better student results are tied to teachers who have undergone training in student-centric approaches as evidence of the importance of teachers’ professional development. While these positive results are encouraging, knowledge of the long-term impact of pedagogies on arts education is still lacking in the literature. Finally, the study proposes that, to offer a more stimulating and innovative learning environment for arts education in India, teachers' preparation needs to be improved, the requirements of students need to be better understood, and longitudinal research needs to be conducted.
