THE NEED FOR CONSUMER EDUCATION IN RURAL AREAS OF GUJARAT: A PATHWAY FOR EMPOWERMENT AND PROTECTION
Abstract
Consumer education plays a critical role in empowering individuals, ensuring they are informed about their rights, and protecting them from exploitation in the marketplace. In rural areas of Gujarat, consumer awareness remains limited, leading to vulnerability to unfair trade practices, substandard products, and a lack of access to redressal mechanisms. This research paper aims to analyze the need for consumer education in rural Gujarat, highlighting the challenges faced by rural consumers, the role of governmental and non-governmental initiatives in promoting consumer awareness, and the potential impact of consumer education on rural empowerment. The paper explores the current gaps in consumer education, identifies key areas for intervention, and provides recommendations for developing effective consumer education programs to bridge the knowledge divide in rural Gujarat.
