Menopause Menopause is the ceasing of the menstruation permanently. The endocrine changes characterize the loss of ovarian function progressively which ultimately leads to menopause. Menopause transition may last for a several years, it is mostly associated with increased prevalence to obesity, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular diseases (CVD), osteoporosis. The menopausal transition happens with the gradual withdrawal of estrogen levels which decreases the lean body mass (LBM), and decrease in the fat mass (FM).(3)
