Abstract

Censorship remains a contentious issue globally, balancing freedom of expression against moral, religious, political, and security considerations. This study investigates censorship practices in India and the world, analyzing their historical evolution, current trends, and societal impacts. By exploring censorship laws, government policies, and public responses, the research highlights the differences in regulatory frameworks, enforcement, and public perceptions across countries. It also examines how technology, particularly the internet and social media, has complicated censorship efforts while simultaneously enabling freedom of expression. The study concludes with recommendations for ensuring a balance between societal norms and the fundamental right to free speech.
