Examining Lifestyle Transitions in Type 2 Diabetes
Abstract
Lifestyle diseases are those diseases or ailments that are primarily based on the day to day habits of people. Type – 2 Diabetes is one such lifestyle disease, which is the most common type of diabetes in the world and is caused by modifiable behavioural risk factors. The purpose of the current research was to study the differences in the lifestyle of an individual before and after being diagnosed with Type – 2 Diabetes, a lifestyle disease. We used a Semi – Structured Interview Schedule to collect the data from an individual with Type – 2 Diabetes. The collected data was then analyzed using Thematic Analysis. Through this technique of analysis, codes were generated and themes were extracted from these codes. Upon analyzing, a total of 14 themes were obtained such as Symptomatology, Alternative Interventions, Post – Diagnostic Affects, Bodily Outcomes Resultant of Diabetes among others. From these themes, it was inferred that there were marked differences between the lifestyle patterns before and after being diagnosed with Type – 2 Diabetes. Implications and limitations of this study are discussed.
