Abstract

Jhumpa Lahiri is a diasporic writer whose writings are mostly centred around the themes of identity crisis and cultural disparities which the immigrant Indians normally encounter. In her debut in piece of literature, Interpreter of Maladies she sketches the lives of Indians and Indian Americans who are caught between their roots and the "New World." The characters in the short stories are long for their Bengali nativity at the same time try to root deep into the soil of their current abode.
