EFFECTIVENESS OF ADDITIONAL SKILL ACQUISITION PROGRAMME AT HIGHER SECONDARY LEVEL – A SPECIAL REFERENCE TO TRIVENDRUM DISTRICT
Abstract
The primary terminal stage of education in India is higher secondary education, as it is at this stage that a large number of young people determine whether to pursue higher education or join the labour force. Educationalists and experts have continually argued that, at this stage, the instruction was given for additional skill bias to align it with the world of work. A historic move in this direction was the additional skill system at the higher secondary level that came into being in India in the late 1970s. Initially, however, the provision of additional skill was led by only a few States and Union Territories. Kerala was not among the first to introduce the scheme on the list of states.
