Abstract

Indian English literature has grown from a postcolonial voice into a thriving global phenomenon, offering narratives that explore India's cultural diversity, historical transitions, and contemporary challenges. This paper examines the evolution of Indian English writers, tracing their journey from pioneers like R.K. Narayan and Mulk Raj Anand to internationally acclaimed authors such as Arundhati Roy and Salman Rushdie. Focusing on themes like identity, diaspora, gender, and environmental justice, it highlights how these writers navigate the complexities of tradition and modernity. By adopting a comparative and thematic approach, this study emphasizes the transformative role of Indian English literature in reshaping global literary discourse while serving as a medium for preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. This exploration underscores the genre’s dual role as both a window to India’s soul and a mirror reflecting universal human experiences.
