Abstract

Gender differences in educational achievement and motivation have long been a subject of study, highlighting distinct patterns in how boys and girls approach learning, perform academically, and engage with educational content. These differences are shaped by a complex interplay of biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors that influence both academic outcomes and motivational drives. Traditionally, girls have outperformed boys in subjects such as reading and writing, while boys often excel in areas like mathematics and spatial reasoning. However, gender disparities are not fixed and are often influenced by societal expectations, stereotypes, and cultural norms, which can either enhance or hinder individual academic potential. Motivation plays a critical role in these differences, with girls generally exhibiting higher levels of intrinsic motivation, characterized by a desire for personal mastery and academic success. Boys, conversely, tend to exhibit more extrinsic motivation, driven by external rewards such as grades and recognition. These motivational orientations, combined with gendered socialization, often contribute to the varying academic trajectories of boys and girls.
