Abstract

The growing demand for mobile applications has led to an increase in the need for computational power, storage, and low latency in mobile cloud computing (MCC). Traditional cloud infrastructures often struggle to meet these demands effectively due to challenges such as network latency, bandwidth constraints, and reliability issues. Cloudlet architecture emerges as a promising solution to address these performance challenges by providing computational resources closer to mobile users. By acting as an intermediary layer between mobile devices and the cloud, cloudlets reduce latency, improve bandwidth efficiency, and enhance the quality of service for real-time and resource-intensive applications. This review aims to explore the effectiveness of cloudlet architecture in overcoming the performance limitations associated with MCC. It discusses how cloudlets enable seamless offloading of resource-demanding tasks, reducing the burden on mobile devices while maintaining a consistent user experience. Additionally, the review addresses key features of cloudlet architecture, including its deployment models, resource management, and security concerns. By evaluating recent advancements and challenges, this paper highlights the potential of cloudlet-based solutions for improving the scalability and performance of mobile cloud services, ultimately enhancing the overall mobile computing experience.
