Abstract

This paper examines the evolution of "Karkidaka Kanji," a traditional medicinal porridge from Kerala, investigating its transition from an ancient health practice to a contemporary dietary trend. Consumed primarily during the monsoon month of Karkidakam, Karkidaka Kanji is deeply embedded in Ayurvedic principles and Kerala's cultural heritage, functioning both as a nutritional staple and a therapeutic food aimed at bolstering immunity during a season marked by vulnerability to illness. Through a descriptive and analytical methodology, this study conducts a comprehensive literature review, analyzing historical texts, Ayurvedic literature, and contemporary sources to elucidate the original ingredients, preparation methods, and cultural significance of Karkidaka Kanji.
