SMARTPHONE USAGE AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING: IMPLICATIONS FOR STUDENT PRODUCTIVITY AND PERFORMANCE
Abstract
The rapid growth of smartphone technology has significantly transformed the lifestyle of college students. While smartphones provide academic support, communication, and entertainment, excessive usage has raised concerns regarding emotional wellbeing and student productivity. This review paper synthesizes existing literature on smartphone usage patterns and their impact on emotional health, academic productivity, and performance among college students. The findings indicate that while moderate smartphone use can enhance learning and connectivity, excessive and addictive use is associated with anxiety, stress, sleep disturbances, and reduced academic performance. The study highlights the need for balanced smartphone usage and institutional interventions to promote digital wellbeing.
