Abstract

The politics of space exploration is a complex interplay between national and international interests, shaped by geopolitical considerations, economic motivations, and scientific ambitions. Historically, space exploration has been driven by national pride and strategic rivalry, particularly during the Cold War when the United States and the Soviet Union competed for dominance in space. This rivalry led to significant milestones, such as the Apollo Moon landings and the launch of the first artificial satellites, signaling space as a domain of national power and prestige. In the modern era, space exploration continues to be influenced by national interests, with countries striving to assert their technological and scientific capabilities. However, the global nature of space research has also fostered increasing international collaboration. Programs like the International Space Station (ISS) exemplify the potential of countries working together toward common scientific goals. Such collaboration allows for the pooling of resources and expertise, with countries like the U.S., Russia, Japan, Europe, and Canada working together despite political differences.
