Abstract

In this research paper, the authors discuss the issues of ownership concentrations and content regulation and variety in the modern media environment. This paper looks at how high based ownership result in media marginalization by limiting the number of channels and hence the viewpoints that can available to the public. Using the cases together with other literature, the study demonstrates the effects of ownership concentrate on democracy, social pluralism, and public trust in media. The research evidence strengthens the argument that one type of ownership is beneficial to develop as many unique and various types of content as is society itself.
