Abstract

These two novels reflect on the challenges of finding a true sense of home amidst external pressures and internal conflicts. While Morrison focuses on the destructive impact of societal norms on individual identity, Lahiri emphasizes the complexities of cultural dislocation and familial bonds. In both cases, the characters' quests for a problem-less life are ultimately thwarted by their realities—whether it be through systemic oppression in Morrison's work or the weight of cultural expectations in Lahiri's narrative. The Bluest Eye and The Lowland provide poignant insights into the nature of home, identity, and the human desire for belonging, illustrating how these themes resonate across different contexts and experiences.
