Abstract:Shashi Deshpande, one of India's foremost contemporary authors, has carved a unique niche within Indian English literature through her profound exploration of the lives, experiences, and aspirations of women in Indian society. This study delves into the rich literary world created by Deshpande, with a specific focus on the women characters that inhabit her novels. Through a comprehensive examination of her works, this study scrutinizes and analyses the multifaceted roles and experiences of these women, shedding light on their struggles for independence, identity, and resilience in the face of societal constraints.
