THERAPEUTIC POTENTIAL AND PHYTOCHEMISTRY OF PERGULARIA DAEMIA: A REVIEW OF RECENT FINDINGS

Abstract

Pergularia daemia (belonging to the Asclepiadaceae family) is a perennial vine extensively found in tropical and subtropical regions. It has been traditionally utilized to manage conditions such as inflammation, microbial infections, epilepsy, and liver-related disorders. This review delves into the plant's phytochemical profile and pharmacological capabilities, highlighting its active components, including flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins. Recent investigations affirm its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, and antimicrobial activities, presenting it as a promising candidate for phytotherapeutic development. Consolidating insights from 30 indexed studies, this review aims to shed light on existing research gaps, facilitating further investigation and clinical applications of P. daemia.
