A STUDY OF SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE OF ACADEMICALLY ABOVE AVERAGE AND ACADEMICALLY AVERAGE STUDENTS IN DISTRICT ANANTNAG OF J&K

Abstract

The present study examined social intelligence of academically above average and academically average students at the secondary school level of district Anantnag in J and K. The sample for the present study comprised of 300 students, 150 are academically above average and 150 are academically average, equally distributed on the basis of gender, selected with the help of simple random sampling. The data from the selected subjects were collected through N. K. Chanddha and Visha Ganesan Social Intelligence Scale (1986) which consists eight dimensions and the academic achievement was considered as the students previous class marks which are taken from the school records. After statistical tests like Mean, SD, T-Test and Pearson’s Coefficient of Correlation, findings revealed a significant difference between academically above average and academically average students on social intelligence and the results goes in favour of academically above average group. Also, significant difference is found between boys and girls on social intelligence in which girls showed better social intelligence as compared to boys. Between social intelligence and academic achievement, positive relationship is revealed from the present study.
